The NSSF Amendment bill was ignited by Ugandans when they requested NSSF to provide 20% of their saving to take them through the prevailing COVID-19 lock down.
Parliament today summoned the Minister of Planning, Hon David Bahati to give the ministry’s position on the bill.
However, the meeting turned into a burning cubic over the letter from President Museveni in which he directed that the Finance Ministry takes over the supervision of NSSF, something the Ministry of Gender and Social Development had started on.
Some members of Parliament however believe that the Ministry of Finance has a hidden motive to hijack the mandate which was previously under the ministry of Gender.
The NSSF Managing Director, Richard Byaruhanga earlier today issued out a letter to the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, giving the Fund’s position that releasing 20% of the savings would distress the sustainability of NSSF as a retirement scheme and the economy as a whole.
