Fallen Deputy Inspector General of Police, Maj Gen Paul Lokech will be buried on Friday, August 27. This is according to a tentative programme released by the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Okoth Martin Ochola. According to a Police statement that The Ugandan Wire has accessed, the late Gen. Government, through the National Bureau for Non-Governmental Organisations (NGO Bureau) has closed down at least fifty four (54) NGOs for not submitting annual returns, among other reasons. In a statement released on Friday, the NGO Bureau said that the 54 were not non-compliant with the NGO Act of 2016. “The Bureau has established that, 23 NGOs are operating with expired permits contrary to section 31(1) and 32(1) of the NGO Act 2016,” the Bureau said in part. The Ministry of Education and Sports (MoES) has announced that the 2020 Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) results will be released on Friday. Zambia’s Electoral Commission has officially announced Opposition candidate Hakainde Hichelema as the winner of last week’s presidential election, The Ugandan Wire reports. Mr Hichilema defeated his main rival, the outgoing President H.E Edgar Lungu, by more than a million votes. This was Hichilema’s sixth attempt at winning the presidency. According to the final poll tally, Mr Hichilema had gathered 2,810,777 votes with the incumbent, Mr Lungu’s polling 1,814,201 in Thursday’s election. The Principal Judge Hon. Flavian Zeija has assigned 32 judges to handle election petitions arising from the 14th January 2021 polls. Addressing the media in Kampala, the Judiciary spokesperson, Jameson Karemani revealed that these are set to handle 155 petitions at both parliamentary and local council level. The National Water & Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) has officially received, from the contractor, a water treatment plant that will supply 160 million litres of water daily to Kampala Metropolitan Area.
