Five candidates have today been fully nominated by the Electoral Commission (EC) to contest in next year’s general elections for the Rubanda East constituency Member of Parliament (MP) seat.
The five were nominated yesterday on the first day of a two day nomination exercise by the Electoral Commission for Members of Parliament. For Rubanda District, the exercise was being led by the District’s EC Returning Officer Francis Muhinda Kagolo.
Of the five nominated, one is the flag bearer of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party, three are Independent candidates while one candidate is under the National Unity Platform (NUP) party.
The director of Nature Uganda Achilles Byaruhanga who is Independent was the first to be nominated at around 11:30 am yesterday. Byaruhanga was then followed by NUP’s candidate Jasper Ayebare.
The two were later followed by NRM’s flag bearer Henry Musasizi who is
also the incumbent Rubanda East Member of Parliament. They were then followed by Independent Henry Kamugisha.
In the afternoon, Jogo Kenneth Biryabarema, the incumbent Rubanda District Chairperson was fully nominated as an Independent Candidate for the same Rubanda East MP seat.
Speaking to the press after his nomination, Biryabarema promised to promote unity among voters in the constituency once voted as the area Member of Parliament.
He also promised to continue with the achievements he had registered as the District Chairperson especially concerning infrastructure.
Mr. Achiles Byaruhanga promised to reconcile the voters in the constituency for the general development of the area.
Similarly, the President of Green Environment Promotion Evelyne Ninsiima Kikafunda and the incumbent Rubanda District Woman Member of Parliament Prossy Akampurira were nominated for the district’s Woman
MP race.
