Alex Ogwang was among the Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) candidates who received their results on Thursday 27th February 2020, when UNEB released last year’s results.
Mr Ogwang has a hearing defect that has him categorized as a deaf person but this did not stop him from excelling, he scored 12 points in Physics Chemistry, Mathematics and ICT (PCM/ICT) from Wakiso Secondary School for the deaf.
He was the only science student at the school and among the best performers at the school. Ogwang first sat UACE in 2015 where he also scored 12 points. Surprisingly he was not given a government sponsorship despite his disability level but this was because he lacked an audio-gram that would prove him as deaf.
He did not lose hope, he went to Kyambogo University to pursue Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering but in 2017, he dropped out of the university due to tuition constraints.
As a determined and committed person, Alex decided to go back to high school to improve on his UACE results where he scored the same results (12 points) but this time round he was able to get all the necessary requirements to see him secure government sponsorship under the category of people with disability.
The good news about his success found him at the construction site where he works for a living. He thanked the lord for having been with him in the struggle and he promised to do work better than that when he joins university on any course that he filled on the PUJAB form.
