Airtel Uganda has today come out of its comfort zone and donated Shs 1.25Bn to the COVID-19 task force aimed at supporting front-line health workers’ fight against coronavirus.

The donation was handed over to the State Minister for Health incharge of General Duties, Hon. Robinah Nabbanja and Permanent Secretary Dr. Diana Atwine by the Airtel Uganda MD.

The task force said that the donation will primarily be used to procure medical supplies especially N95 masks and Personal Protective Equipment for frontline health workers in the COVID-19 fight in the country.

“We are really grateful for the work that the Ministry has done when it comes to health care and we have no doubt that you have done your very best in this fight so far.” Airtel MD VG Somasekhar said.

“However, Airtel being a responsible corporate citizen, we want to ensure that we are able to stand with the country and support you, hence, our contribution of 1.25 Billion Uganda shillings.” He added.

Also present at the handover was the Airtel Uganda Board Chairman, Mr Hannington Karuhanga. He applauded the Ministry of Health and President Museveni for being figure heads in the brave fight against the spread of coronavirus, insisting that they’ve proven the heroes that the country needed.
