Police officers in Mbale have in custody 22 adults that were arrested Sunday evening in The Oax bar, Mbale City.
Officers commanded by the District police Commander, Mr Fred Ahimbisibwe picked the suspects from Oax bar and restaurant commonly known as Sukali in Namakwekwe ward at around 11pm on Sunday night.
The alarm was risen neighboring whistleblowers whose ears were almost cracked by the noisy revelers. On the crackdown by the law enforcers, the party animals sobered up to finding ways out but some were “too high” to find the exit, ending up in the bar’s toilets.
The Elgon region Police Spokesperson, Mr Rogers Taitika confirmed the arrests as a part of the operations to ensure the implementation of the directives against bars.
“During the operation, we managed to arrest about 22 revelers from Oax bar. Other revelers upon seeing us fled but left their cars behind, which were also impounded by police,”Mr Taitika said.
Bars and clubs were closed last year thus there operation is a criminal offense in Uganda until the Fountain of honor declares otherwise. The enforcement has been shaky in most urban area but the unlucky culprits always pay the ultimate price; and the 22 are to face charges.
“These suspects were found in bars that were closed to stop the spread of Covid-19. This is a warning to all people with bars to stop operating illegally because the ban is still on”, he added.
