16 tailors from Kiyembe in Kampala’s City Centre who were on Friday charged with offences in relation to uniforms declared exclusively for the armed forces of Uganda and remanded to Kitalya and Kigo Government Prisons for men and women respectively, yesterday appeared before court again and were further remanded.
The 16, including six women some of whom are breast feeding mothers, had returned to court yesterday hoping to be released on bail but the Buganda Road Court Grade One Magistrate Stella Amabilis ordered prisons to produce them back today 20th October saying she had many cases to handle on behalf of other Magistrates.
The 16 are part of the 75 people including 44 People Power Youths who were arraigned in different courts in Kampala on Friday on charges of unlawfully wearing uniforms declared exclusively for the armed forces of Uganda.
The tailors were found in possession of uniform or dresses with close resemblance of the Army Uniform and distinctive marks of security forces like Lineyards, Peeps and Berets in “a manner or circumstances likely to bring contempt on that uniform.”
They were all arrested on 14th October, 2020 but the People Power Youths were arrested from Kamwokya a Kampala suburb. They all denied the charges.
Others return to court on 21st and 23rd October, 2020 as investigations into their case continue.
