Violence At Home While Growing Up Cleared Path for My Career – Celebrated Kitone Vendor Bad Black Reveals

Growing up, there are jobs that we would never imagine ourselves or our loved ones doing. Our conservative African society values dignity so much that paths like prostitution and sex work are alienated and branded immoral and outcast.

Eventually when our society was faced with the realities of limited resources due to stiff competition and over population, we realised that the end will, sometimes, always justify the means. And the end, is making money.

Money, however, is not the only reason that women become sex workers. Child abuse as a result of domestic violence is quickly rounding up other reasons for the top spot. That is why, very often the society and policy makers have refused to legalise prostitution insisting that the women/girls and now men need professional help to stop their work.

Celebrated Kitone Vendor Shanita Namuyimba alias Bad Black has revealed that she would be leading an otherwise normal life but that she was forced to start selling her holy lands for the terrorists to bomb them whenever they feel like because her mother had turned her into a church drum.

According to Bad Black, her mother had made it an issue to consistently clap her as if she was looking for spots that made the loudest noise.

“I believe no lady dreams of becoming a prostitute but problems push them into prostitution. I left home because of torture from my mother. I went to Nakasero Street where I started to work as a prostitute. I believe there are more girls who also left their homes because of torture,” Bad Black recalled.

Now, a mother figure in the industry, Bad Black has fought tooth and nail to have the girls rights recognised and respected. A leader within their ranks, she is set to meet President Museveni to raise the plight of her colleagues to the head of state for consideration in policies to come.
