There was a scuffle in Central Kampala yesterday when a woman was reported to health officials as a suspected Coronavirus victim.
According to onlookers, this happened after the woman, who was staying in a building next to Majestic Plaza showed ‘signs’ of the Corona.
The locals however, instead of rushing for dear life, the virus being highly infectitious and airborne, gathered in big numbers to have a look at the suspected victim of the virus.
In a statement from the Ministry of Health, the health team acknowledged the incident but reported that the woman was safe and was undergoing self quarantine.
Makerere University College of Health Science responded by sending the Infectious Diseases Institute (IDI) experts reached the venue and checked the woman.
“The Ministry of Health has not registered any COVID-19 case. Let us remain vigilant and calm but refrain from spreading false rumours.” Mr Emmanuel Ainebyona, the Ministry PRO said in a statement.
“The Ministry of Health has noted various social media posts alleging that there was a COVID-19 suspected case in downtown Kampala. We sent our surveillance teams who established that she was in mandatory self quarantine and exhibited no signs and symptoms of the virus.” the statement further reads.
Incase of a coronavirus alert, the Ministry has encouraged the public to report cases on their toll free lines of 0800100066 or 0800203033.
