The Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF) has retired a total of 618 officers including 14 Generals, according to the UPDF Spokesperson Brig. Gen. Flavia Byekwaso, The Ugandan Wire has confirmed.
Brig. Byekwaso said that the retirement ceremony of the generals will be held at State House Entebbe while the other retirees would have their ceremony in their respective service headquarters, formations and units.
“The Ministry of Defence and UPDF recognize their commitment, sacrifice, selflessness and dedication to offering security service to the country at a time where many shunned joining the liberation struggle in favour of maintaining the status quo.” Byekwaso said in a statement.
While the Army leadership is silent on the officers scheduled to retire, The Ugandan Wire has exclusively learnt that among those retiring is Maj Gen Pecos Kutesa and Maj Gen Robert Rusoke.
The Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces, President Yoweri Museveni is expected to preside over the retirement ceremony at State House, Entebbe.
