The United States of America (USA) has surpassed Italy with the most reported coronavirus deaths in any nation amid the pandemic.
At least 19,602 people have so far died from the virus. This is according to a tally by Wikipedia which records Italy deaths at 19,468.
In the country’s most hit state, New York, 783 deaths were recorded on Friday according to the Governor Andrew Cuomo.
Altogether, 8,627 people have so far died from coronavirus. About 101 people are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and some 109 people have had intubations, according to Governor Cuomo.
Cuomo however said the administration is already seeing some light at the end of the tunnel.
“The number of hospitalizations appears to have hit an apex and the apex appears to be a plateau. Which is what many of the models predicted, that it wasn’t going to be a straight up and straight down. It was straight up, you hit the top number, plateau for a period of time, and that looks like what we are doing. The hospitalization rate is down, and that’s important. We have more people getting infected still. We have more people going into the hospitals, but we have a lower number,” Cuomo said.
Countrywide, the United States has had 507,422 coronavirus cases. 29,139 have recovered.
