Hon Jacob Marksons Oboth-Oboth today welcomed the French Ambassador to Uganda, His Excellency Xavier Sticker, for a meeting at the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs Headquarters in Mbuya.
The discussions focused on enhancing regional security and strengthening military cooperation, with an emphasis on training. Minister Oboth expressed his appreciation for France’s ongoing support, highlighting training programs like the Mountain Warfare Course and French language sessions conducted at the Mountain Warfare Training School in Karugutu.
Minister Oboth stressed the importance of expanding these initiatives, noting that President Yoweri Museveni has prioritised upskilling UPDF officers to build on their foundational capabilities. He affirmed that these efforts have notably bolstered the UPDF’s effectiveness, especially in counter-terrorism operations.
The meeting was attended by Under Secretary for Logistics, Mr Francis Ngabirano Kahiriita; Brig Gen Julius Mbaine, Assistant Chief of Defence Intelligence and Security in Charge of Counter Intelligence; Col Ajoket, Military Assistant to the Minister; and Col Mulindwa from the Joint Staff Training and Doctrine.
