Two Staff of Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) have been arraigned before the Anti-Corruption Court and remanded to Kitalya Government Prison for receiving a bribe of Shs 3M from the Mukamanayamba Factory Branch Manager – Sheema District.
Shaka Vitalis an Inspector together with Norman Mwamula Methwellah a Surveillance Officer UNBS Mbarara Regional Offices appeared before Grade One Magistrate Moses Nabende and denied Corruption Charges.
Court heard that the Shaka and Norman on 6th October, 2020 at Mukamanayamba Factory Kibutamo Branch in Kabwohe – Sheema District solicited and received a bribe of Shs 3M from the Branch Manager in exchange for the accused UNBS Officers to write a favourable report about the Factory and not to close it; after they had inspected the said Factory.
They return to Court on 23rd October as investigations into their case continue.
According to CID Spokesperson Charles Mansio Twine; the accused persons were arrested with the help of the State House Anti-Corruption Unit headed by Col. Edith Nakalema following a complaint by the Mukamanayamba Factory.
