Police in Rubanda District is holding five people suspected of having been part of a mob that lynched two suspected cattle thieves in Bubare Sub County.
The suspects are the LCI Chairperson of Rwere Cell, James Kabagambe, the
LCI Chairperson of Kirwa Cell, Ivan Nkwasizehi, George Tukundane and Isaac Byamukama, all residents of Rwere Cell and Alex Nuwareba, a resident of Kirwa Cell all in Bubare Sub County in Rubanda District.
The suspects are accused of assaulting Tom Tumwesigye and Gracious Arinda, all residents of Rwere Cell which resulted into their death.
According the LCV Councilor of Bubare Sub County, Obed Kitabutuka, the incident occurred on Sunday evening at around 10:00pm, at Rwere trading centre, when the two were beaten to coma after they were suspected of stealing two goats, belonging to Serediana Nyamitwe, a resident of Rusukizi Village, Muyanje Parish in Bubaare Sub County.
Kitabutuka said that the two were pronounced dead on Sunday night at Kabale Regional Referral Hospital where they were rushed for treatment.
The Kigezi Police spokesperson, Elly Maate said that the suspects were arrested yesterday and will be taken to Courts of Law to answer charges accordingly. Maate said that the suspects were at the scene during the mob action.
