National Unity Platform (NUP)/ People Power Head of Youths, MP Francis Zaake Butebi has secured nomination for the Mityana Municipality Parliamentary Seat in the 2021 General Elections.
Hundred of his supporters in Mityana Town, clad in red attire, escorted him for nomination as he seeks a second term in the Parliament of Uganda.
“I am happy to confirm to you comrades that I have been successfully nominated to contest again for the position of Member of Parliament (MP) representing Mityana Municipality.” Zaake said.
He however said that the day, albeit as expired, did not end without incident.
“Trigger-happy Police and Military men did what they do best – terrorise people – on our way back from the nomination venue. But contrary to their expectations, my supporters stood firm and resisted the intimidation. We’ve demonstrated once again that the power of the people is stronger than the people in power!” He added.
The youthful legislator paraded some of his supporters with open wounds and fresh bruises that he says were injured by security officers in the process of his nomination.
A close confidant of Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine, Zaake is one of the founding members of the People Power Movement that created the National Unity Platform (NUP) as their political wing.
