Lent is the christians’ annual period that lasts for 40 days (excluding Sundays) representing the 40 days Jesus spent fasting in the wilderness.
This year’s Lent started on 26th February and it will end on 9th April .
As we are in the third week of Lent, there are some things that as christians we are expected to be doing and not to do and some of them are;
Fasting
According to the Catholic Church, one is not supposed to eat meat on Ash Wednesday, Good Friday and any other Friday. This is because it’s believed that Jesus died on Friday. However, one is allowed to eat fish since it’s cold blooded.
One is supposed to deprive themselves of what they love most during this season as away of honouring the 40 days Jesus spent in the desert.
Abstinence
Couples that feel that sex is so important to them can decide not to have it during Lent.
One can also abstain from vices like gossiping, being rude and impatience during the Lent season.
Others can abstain from things like alcohol and cigarettes.
Christians during this period should give up their luxuries in order to replicate the account of Jesus’ journey in the desert for 40 days.
Read your Bible everyday and attend Mass weekdays (many churches around have Mass in the morning, noon and evenings after work).
Practice the 40 days of letter writing, 40 acts of kindness (visit orphanages, help the needy/ elderly and pray for the sick) 40 phone calls to people who are so important to you.
Reconciliation is key during this period. Forgive all those that have ever wronged you and say sorry at all times.
I hope the above will help you go through the Lent period well.
Fast, Pray and Give.
