The upcoming Jinja “Sexy Speed” Rally has caused its fair share of drama. The latest that The Ugandan Wire has landed on is a letter by Rally Driver Didas Matsiko withdrawing from the race over what he terms as “vulgar and scandalous” innuendos.
In a missive copied to God Almighty, yes, the One above, Matsiko titled his letter “Condemnation of and withdrawal from the so-called Sexy Speed Rally.”
“We ought not to use any language or action that may negatively affect our image as a group. I don’t agree with the word ‘sexy’ to be the name of a national event and 99% of our population will relate it to sexy girls instead of sexy cars.” Matsiko wrote in his letter to the President of the Federation of Motor Sports Clubs in Uganda.
Matsiko, whom this website has learned is a rally driver with Inertia, commended fellow drivers that have come out to criticise the event for being morally scandalous – notably the IUEA rally team and Rally Driver Hassan Alwi.
While closing off his letter, Matsiko categorically stated that he is not pulling out to gain popularity for positions as is the norm and said that he is simply doing God’s work – although he is not a Pastor. See below his full letter.
