Museveni has today commissioned the 50MV Power Station which will provide electricity for the Sino-Mbale City industrial park.

Mbale City industrial park, whose construction started last year, was officially commissioned by President Yoweri Museveni in March this year.

“This is an opportunity for us to employ our people and improve our manufacturing capacity now that there is enough electricity to power this project.” Museveni said at the commissioning ceremony.

The plans by government to construct a power substation in Mbale City industrial park were revealed by the privatization and investments State Minister, Evelyn Anite who said the substation was intended to overcome the challenge of power outages which has been addressed in other industrial parks like Namanve South, Mukono, Kapeka and Tororo.

According to Anite, investors often complained to the government about the high costs of power and the challenge of load shedding.

The other factories in the park include Grace Form Limited producing praying mats and mattresses, Pearlight Technology which manufactures energy saving bulbs, Ubon Technology which produces powder, Victoria Cable Limited manufacturing cables and Kyoga Capital Textile Limited which is producing stockings.

The park is currently home to over 10 factories which are already employing about 5000 Ugandans.

The park, with a total investment of more than $600M (Shs2.2 trillion), is expected to house more than 50 factories and employ more than 15,000 youths at full capacity.
