A tough talking President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has ordered all politicians in the country not to act ultra vires by recklessly saying that Uganda has no Coronavirus or else get prosecuted.
Speaking at the commencement of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) delegates conference at State House, Museveni said that if enough evidence is collected, those seeking for this ‘cheap popularity’ shall get arrested.
“In Uganda, we have lost a total of 15 people. You remember people saying this disease is not killing people. I hear some politicians saying that there is no Coronavirus. If we get evidence, we shall prosecute them,” President Museveni warned.
Mr Museveni further exhibited how the earlier restrictions were for the good of the nation and he further asserted that “for four months, nobody died.”
“People said the scientists are locking us down to make money. Well, on July 21st we had the first death.” Museveni added.
Mr Museveni asked Ugandans not to be relaxed to forget life and think about jobs and businesses.
According to the Ministry of Health, Uganda has confirmed 1,560 cumulative COVID-19 cases, of which 1,165 have recovered from the virus and 15 fatalities have been reported.
The President promised to address the country about the current situation next week.
