The Prime Minister, Dr Ruhakana Rugunda revealed earlier today morning, that President Museveni has appointed Minister for General Duties (in the Prime Minister’s Office) Hon. Mary Karoro Okurut as the Fund Overseer for all income donated to help in countering the novel coronavirus.
Dr Rugunda, who is the leader of the National COVID-19 Taskforce, revealed that President Museveni would handle the launch of the Fund himself.
A number of people have bee asking in regard to where they can channel the resources they want to contribute. We want to have clarity in government as to how this is going to be done.” The Prime Minister said.
Dr Rugunda noted that the effort is to ensure that the Minister of Health Dr Jane Ruth Aceng and her team get enough time to handle field supervision as it is the toughest and most professional part of countering the virus.
President Museveni also appointed Ms Dorothy Kisaka, the Senior Governance Advisor to the Prime Minister as Administrator of the Fund whose account was opened in Stanbic Bank.
At the same ceremony, the Prime Minister acknowledged receipt of donations from the Presidential Initiative on Banana Industrial Development (4 tonnes of flour), Sarayi Group (sanitizers, soap, sugar and wheat floor), Seroma Investments (800 bags of posho), Tororo Cement (Shs 200M), China Communications Construction Company – CCCC (Shs 5M), The Indian Association (Shs 200M), Yoshino (Shs 5M and a pick up), Mandela Group (2 new pick ups), Sino Hydro and Mukono Industrial Park that donated 2 brand new Jeeps and another vehicle respectively
