Road users of the Kabale – Kisoro highway are protesting the poor state of the road at Hakagyezi in Hamurwa Sub County in Rubanda District.
The road connects Uganda to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) at the Bunagana Border and to Rwanda at the Kyanika Border.
The road users argue that part of the road at Hakagyezi is now impassable due to deep and huge potholes that are filled with water.
They also said that Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) has not come out to repair the road since early last year when it started developing potholes.
Francis Betonda and Allan Niwamanya, all taxi drivers along the Kabale – Kisoro road and Allan Musooke, a truck driver said that the current state of the road is wanting.
They said that as a way of dodging the problem, some of them have now resorted to using Kachwekano – Muko road but it is also very risky and slippery when it rains and cannot favour drivers with long vehicles such as trailers.
“We need the government to intervene and at least try to patch up the potholes before the situation gets out of hand. This is an important route, I think they should give it the necessary attention.”

Catherine Twesigomwe, Robert Musinguzi, Bruce Ntegyerize, tomato sellers, said that whenever it rains heavily, it is very difficult for those using foot to cross the road.
They said that none of their district local leaders even seem to show concern over the road, despite their repeated appeals.
The UNRA Spokesperson Allan Ssempebwa Kyobe told our reporter on phone that they have already planned to commence restoration of the affected section of the road and that repair will begin by the second week of November.
