NBS TV journalists covering the National Unity Platform (NUP) flag bearer Robert Kyagulanyi Sentamu alias Bobi Wine have left his campaign trail decrying hooliganism and theft among his supporters.
Journalist Daniel Lutaaya and his crew were yesterday way laid in spectacular fashion by supporters of Bobi Wine while he held a procession and rally in Lira City.
Their station car was vandalized, phones and recording equipment taken and the photographer beaten to pulp after he hang on his camera as they tried to whisk it away from him.
Addressing the incident today morning, Journalist Lutaaya said they’re retreating from covering Kyagulanyi’s campaign until further notice and they’ll be in Kampala seeking medical attention.
“We, unfortunately, have to retreat from this NUP campaign trail. That attack yesterday has left me wounded, Thomas Kitimbo even worse, & our NBS TV vehicle was vandalized. [We’re going] Back to Kampala for medical attention until further notice.” Lutaaya tweeted.
The journalist decried the incident and stressed that Journalism isn’t a crime and people should always respect them while they’re doing their work.
