Kibale East County Member of Parliament and Minister of Gender, Labour and Social Development on the Ugandan cabinet Hon. Frank Kagyigyi Tumwebaze has donated COVID-19 protective gear to health workers in his home district of Kamwenge amid the deadly outbreak of the novel coronavirus.
Hon. Tumwebaze has represented Kibale East in the Ugandan parliament since 2006 and served the country as minister in different portfolios including Information and ICT where he served as a defacto government spokesperson.
The donated items included gloves, detergents, masks, aprons & boots for the frontline health workers. He also donated 250 litres of diesel to the emergency district health vehicles.
“I met our Kamwenge district COVID-19 taskforce today morning & we discussed the readnes of our district system & operations of our Hub at Rukunyu. The health workers are doing a great job. I donated, through the District Health Officer (DHO), to our health workers protective gear materials worth Shs 5.5M” Hon Tumwebaze revealed on his social media.
The donated items were all bought from Joint Medical Stores (JMS).
Uganda has so far registered 33 cases of COVID-19 and the President last night revealed fresh preventive measures to halt the spread of the virus that included the suspension of private vehicles and closure of all non-essential product shops/stores.
