Uganda-The Uganda Tourism Board has reiterated that Uganda is secure to visit by tourists, and the overall risk of infection is low.
This follows a declaration by the World Health Organization (WHO) that designates Mpox as a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC).
The Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) followed by announcing a Public Health Emergency of Continental Security (PHECS) on August 13, 2024.
Following these declarations, The Ministry of Health, Uganda confirmed two cases of Mpox from 6 samples at the border area near DRC for the first time in the country.
The two individuals were isolated, treated and have since recovered and discharged. All the contact traces associated to the patients were negative.
Since the outbreak, the country has implemented enhanced surveillance and contact tracing protocols as well as intensified screening for Mpox at selected entry points to the country.
According to Simplicious Gessa, UTB PRO,
Uganda continues to implement rigorous health protocols across tourist facilities, and public spaces. “These measures are in place to safeguard the health of both citizens and visitors. Uganda has had a strong track record in managing public health issues.”
He revealed that Uganda Tourism Board, together with health authorities, is committed to providing up-to-date information and maintaining a safe environment for all.
Gessa encouraged travelers to continue planning their trips to Uganda with confidence.
