The Minister of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, Matia Kasaija and the State Minister for Finance in charge of Investment and Privatization, Evelyn Anite, have committed to Support Roofings Group.
This, was during a visit by the Ministers at the Roofings plant in Namanve. Speaking shortly after the tour, Anite revealed that they noted a few challenges like the road network, which government is already working on.
She also revealed that the factory also benefits from the presidential directive of buying electricity at 5 cents, however, this is only done from Midnight to 6 am.
“They have been getting the electricity on off peak hours, which is from midnight to 6am but the intention is to make them get it all day round,” she said.
Adding, “The other issue is that they wanted to see the roadworks. They are concerned that the road project is not moving very fast enough, and we’re here. The contractor, Lagan dot, was also here, and we have assessed the situation, We are happy that they are not very, far away from the project, as you can see just behind me, they are from completing the stretch in front of roofings,” she noted.
On his part, Matia Kasaija said government is ready to Support investors like Roofings group. “They are creating over 2000 jobs for our people, as government we will support them.”
He thanked the group chairman Sikander Lalani for heeding to the president’s call of Value Addition.
Sikander Lalani, the Roofings Group Chairman thanked government for the support rendered to investors and manufacturers. He noted that the group employees over 2000 Ugandans, and is looking at expanding these numbers to over 5000.
He further revealed that because of government’s support, they have been able to export their products.
