The State Minister for Mineral Development, Phiona Nyamutoro, has Thursday morning reportedly escaped being shot at by Security guards of National Cement Co., a subsidiary of the Devki Group.
The Minister had visited the National Cement Co site to sensitize miners on the significance of adherence to artisanal mining regulations.
She was also on a stakeholders’ consultation and sensitization on artisanal mining regulations in the Kigezi Region. She noted that the guards got orders from their boss to shoot whoever was on site, however this was averted by the security detail.
The junior was later escorted to safety, while the private security guards were disarmed and detained.
