Facebook Group Mama Tendo is known for everything hilarious on the particular social media platform but amid the ongoing fight and awareness campaign against Rapists, they’ve chosen a side that will have them vindicated in history.
The Facebook group, since yesterday, has run serious campaigns against rape highlighting all forms of rape and sexual assault that their audience may not have been informed against.
“The name and shame approach to rapists that started on twitter is a big breakthrough for justice, the right to be heard. I think we should widen the net to include those who touch women’s breasts, those who deep their hands in their under wear, those who squeeze them on walls, those who bite their nipples.” The Group admin said in a pinned post on the page.
This was in light to uninformed belief by some members of the society that rape only involves jumping a victim, say in the bush, and forcefully engaging them in sexual intercourse. Majority of the illiterate Ugandans and some literates (by the way) don’t understand the element of consent and have been violating it everywhere they meet girls.
“Many of those who do this kasasiro (rape) to women are seated in the corporate circles, in boardrooms, in parliament, in hospitals and clinics, in churches. Indecent assault against women seems to be an accepted behavior until it becomes rape. Please increase the circumference of the net so that we can also name and shame them. A drunk woman or a woman on drugs is more vulnerable to rape but that does not make it okay to rape her.” The admin concluded.
We applaud the administrators of the page for taking time to inform the masses on Facebook about the elements of rape and trying to widen the scope to capture some incidents that an ordinary Ugandan would never have imagined construed rape.
