President Museveni has called off some programs over the Prime Minister’s self isolation notice due to the coronavirus scare amongst his close contacts.
The head of government business, Dr Ruhakana Rugunda, on Friday the 5th June, 2020 announced that he was getting into self isolation after some of his close associates tested positive for COVID-19.
It should be noted that the prime minister heads government business and its within his jurisdiction to head the COVID-19 National Task Force. And he has to be close to the president at all occasions in such times.
It’s reported that Dr. Rugunda has been in close contact with the president on four occasions, two of which were during the cabinet meetings and during the live addresses to the nation and while meeting the national task force.
It’s due to these occasions that he called off some of the programs as a precautionary means to curb the spread if the virus as per the guidelines.
Last Thursday, the president was meant to address the nation from Kololo Independence Grounds but rather opted to have it from State House Entebbe on special request even when the grounds had been clearly organised.
Due to the developments, the president has ordered all his ministers to undergo a mandatory COVID-19 test per fortnight before getting allowed into cabinet sessions.
The programs that were called off have not been made known to the public yet.
Uganda has 646 cases of COVID-19 with 82 of these being fully recovered and discharged.
