President Museveni has, in a tweet, taken a very unexpected jab at Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago while welcoming former Deputy Lord Mayor Sarah Kanyike to Cabinet.
President Museveni first recommended Ms Kanyike’s appointment as one of the directors at the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) before he later appointed her Minister of State for Disabilities and the Elderly.
All this was while she was still serving as a KCCA Lord Councillor and Deputy Lord Mayor to Mr. Lukwago. In retaliation, Lukwago gave her a 24 hours ultimatum to come out about her position on the matter – whether she would take the President’s appointment or reject it.
When she failed to respond, Lukwago appointed Makerere University LCV Woman Councillor Doreen Nyanjura as the Deputy Lord Mayor while decrying the course of action that Ms Kanyike had chosen to take.
A heartbroken Lukwago could not believe that a top member of his defiant council could make such a switch, which explains President Museveni’s jab at the former DP member turned FDC.
“I congratulate Ms. Sarah Kanyike upon her appointment as State Minister for Disabilities and the Elderly. I want to express sympathy to my son Lukwago (Erias) who almost got a heart attack because I captured a big fish from my old party (DP).” Museveni tweeted.
Ms Kanyike was sworn in today at State House Entebbe after successfully going through parliamentary vetting. She assummes office effective immediately.
“I am happy with people like Ms. Kanyike who put the problems of the people ahead of party differences. What Uganda needs is unity aimed at serving our people.” President Museveni added.
