Police have commenced investigations into the alleged shooting of National Unity Platform, (NUP) President, Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine.
Kyagulanyi on Tuesday evening was injured in area of Bulindo, Kira following a scuffle with the Police. He had earlier attended a Thanksgiving ceremony the area, which concluded peacefully.
According to Kituuma Rusoke, Police Publicist, Kyagulanyi was in the area at the invitation of George Musisi (NUP Lawyer).
Kituuma said that when Kyagulanyi left the venue, he and his team moved out of their cars and embarked on a procession up to Bulindo town. “however, the police advised against it. Despite their guidance, he insisted on proceeding and closing the road, leading to police intervention to prevent the procession.”
He added, “Police officers on site claim he stumbled while getting into his vehicle, causing the injury, whereas Hon. Kyagulanyi and his team assert that he was shot.”
Bobi wine was taken to Najaeem Medical Centre in Bulindo for first aid, before he was transferred to a bigger hospital.
Kituuma promised for an investigation to clarify the facts, “The police will investigate the alleged shooting and any related incidents.”
