The body of a 20 year old woman who drowned in River Karehe, Burambira Parish, Kaharo Sub County in Kabale District yesterday morning has been retrieved by the locals.
According to the Local Council 1 Village Chairperson of Rushebeya I, Mr. Simeo Byandusa, a one Monica Tayebwa, a resident of Rushebeya I, Burambira Parish, Kaharo Sub County drowned in the river at 7:30 am while trying to cross, going to Nyanja Trading Centre.
Byandusa said that after Tayebwa drowned, the locals started searching for her body until 9:20 am when it was retrieved. He said that the river started
flooding since last week, following the current heavy rains.
Elsewhere, a 30 year old man has been discovered hanging dead in custody at Kebisoni Police Station in Rukungiri District.
The deceased has been identified as Didas Mugarura, a resident of
Kinyamahwa Village Kahoko Parish Nyakagyeme, Rukungiri District. He was under the charges of domestic violence related offences after he was reported by his wife Ms. Anitah Ainembabazi aged 20.
The Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson Elly Maate said that on Monday evening, the deceased was arrested by Police with in Kebisoni Town Council and taken to Kebisoni Central Police Station.
Maate added that at around 11:00 pm in the same night, a police officer
identified as Pius Muyambi who was on night duty guarding the custody
opened to check on him but got shocked when he found him hanging in his
shirt dead.
Maate said that the case of suicide has been registered at Rukungiri Central Police Station as investigations continue, and postmortem was done,
and the body handed over to the relatives for burial.
