The annual Nyege Nyege Festival has kicked off in Eastern Uganda district of Jinja with streams of cars seen making way for the source of the Nile district.
The festival, that is organised by Talent Africa and sponsored by Coca Cola and Bell Lager, is one that revellers look up to every year and save monies to attend because “the fun in the festival is unseen anywhere.”
It attracts business for Jinja people from lodge and apartment operators to the taxi business within the town. This year however, another category of workers cannot wait for the revellers.
Sex workers in Jinja have revealed that they are very excited the festival has reached once again. The sex workers expect business to boom because in their own terms, the “products are fresh and clean for Nyege Nyege.”
“I have been looking upto this festival. Business has been there but you know local people, they don’t have money. Now I hear even bazungu are coming, I can’t wait.” Jacinta, a sex worker, told our reporter.
The festival shall run till Sunday in Njeru Forest.
