Speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon. Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga has come out to support ailing Mityana Municipality Member of Parliament (MP) Hon. Zaake Francis Butebi who was allegedly tortured by security forces for distributing COVID-19 relief food to his constituents.
“Hon. Zaake told me that pepper spray was sprayed directly into his eyes. He was in Police custody for several days and they must account for his injuries. This is a violation of human rights and it is unacceptable.” Kadaga said earlier today.
The speaker, who has been battling the Executive and Judiciary for ‘meddling’ in affairs of Parliament when they successfully blocked the MPs share of 10Bn as COVID-19 facilitation, paid a visit to the MP in hospital and made the conclusions.
“During the weekend, I visited Hon. Kato Lubwama at hospital. He underwent surgery and he’s recovering. I also visited Hon. Francis Zaake at Lubaga Hospital. I’m very concerned about his situation. It is clear that he was beaten and battered.” Kadaga further said.
Zaake is still hospitalised but steadily recovering.
