Pelere Group, the oilseed giants located at Matugga Road, Wakiso District, yesterday broke ground on a major oilseed factory in Laroo-Pece Division, in Gulu City. The new facility will enhance production capacity up to 20 tonnes of oilseeds per day, and it is a key step towards Pelere Group’s goal of impacting over one million farmers by 2026, creating local jobs, increasing exports and contributing to economic growth of not only Gulu City, but the entire country as well.
The historic groundbreaking event was honoured with the presence of Dr. Maggie Kigozi, a renowned industrialist and humanitarian, who currently serves on the Private Sector Foundation Uganda (PSFU) Advisory Committee. She noted, “Breaking ground is a big achievement but this is just the beginning. We will be back soon for the opening of the factory.” On a lighter note, she added, “with women world over moving away from wigs to natural hair, Pelere products are going to be in high demand.”
In attendance as well was Pelere Group CEO, Ms. Sandra Letio, who couldn’t hide her excitement at this project, had this to say; “This groundbreaking is an exciting and impactful milestone, and the sacrifices have been worthwhile. Our persistence will drive a greater impact with the bigger factory, creating more jobs and enhancing our commitment to local farmers and sustainable practices.”
Pelere Group’s new facility will not only enhance production capabilities of Nilotica shea butter, sunflower seeds, soybeans, groundnuts, and castor oil and others but also create employment opportunities and boost the local economy. This development aligns with the Group’s mission to foster socio-economic growth and environmental sustainability in the region.
