Lt Gen Henry Tumukunde, the former Minister of Security and a retired Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) officer has today 3rd March 2020 declared his intentions to contest for the office of the president in 2021 elections.
Gen Tumukunde has today afternoon wrote a letter to the Electoral Commission (EC) where he stated that he intends to avail the first peaceful transition of the presidency as was their intention during the bush war.
“I join all well meaning Ugandans to support the fundamental change we promised Ugandans in the past and the peaceful transition from one generation to another,” Tumukunde’s letter reads in part.
In the same letter, he asked the Electoral Commission to allow him to begin national consultations which he said will target various interest groups whose views will facilitate his decision ahead of the October 2020 presidential nominations.
Gen Tumukunde later after delivering his letter at the commission’s head offices, he posted on social media a teaser quoting former US president Ronald Reagan implying that he has no personal connections with President Yoweri Museveni.
“When you can’t make them see light, make them feel the heat. For I have always supported measures and principles and not men.” Tumukunde posted.
