Former Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) Commissioner for Customs Dicksons C. Kateshumbwa is in the spotlight after his team was pictured giving out knickers and sanitary pads to women and girls in Sheema Municipality.
Katesh, who along with several fellow commissioners resigned from the tax body in April, is contesting for Member of Parliament (MP) in Sheema Municipality.
According to information we have gathered from sources in Sheema, team led by Kateshumba’s wife Jill Katesh distributed reusable sanitary pads and other items to vulnerable girls and women in the constituency to help them properly respond to the risks of teenage girls’ pregnancies that has increased due to the lockdown measures and closure of schools.
“Many school going girls who have been affected by the lockdown that led to closure of schools are being lured by boda boda riders in exchange for sanitary items. My wife and other friends of mine mobilized money to buy them pads,” Kateshumbwa has been quoted to say.
The essence, according to Katesh, was to distribute only pads but they had to buy knickers to make a package complete.
Kateshumbwa is battling the incumbent, Dr Elioda Tumwesigye, the Minister of Science, Technology and Innovations who scooped the position in a by election when he floored FDC’s Virginia Mugyenyi.
