On Wednesday evening, news trickled in that President Museveni had appointed musician Edrisah Musuuza alias Eddy Kenzo as a Senior Presidential Advisor on Creatives.
Kenzo a husband to Minister of State for Energy charge of Mineral Development, Phionah Nyamutoro, thanked the president for his appointment and pledged to serve diligently. He becomes the 140th presidential advisor.
However, his appointment was met with mixed reactions, with some commentators describing it as another wastage of public resources.
Kato Mpanga, questioned “if the taxpayer should be burdened further with paying for Kenzo’s services when government already has highly capable people in place to advise the president at ministries like that of Gender and Culture.”
On his part, Eston Luwedde said, “I don’t have any issues with his academics however I am more concerned about the creatives side. You cannot leave Phillip Luswata or Alex Mukulu on the advisers list and include Musuuza.”
However, Antony Natif on his X said Eddy Kenzo, should be vociferously congratulated and not ridiculed.
“The public backlash against Mr Edirisa Musuuza’s appointment as “The Senior Presidential Advisor on the Creatives”, is nothing more than elitist/classist mass disdain for people who aren’t as educated as them; at least in their eyes. “
He added, “It’s a schizophrenic frenzy informed by a need to put down someone so they feel elevated. It’s a cry for help in a miserable cesspool of extreme mediocrity and unfulfilled potential. People have been dealt a hard one by the system and are taking it out on anyone and everyone.”
