The ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party candidates
yesterday won all the nine youth member committees for Kabale Municipality defeating the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) and Bobi Wine’s NUP among others.
The polls were held at Kabale District electoral commission offices in
Makanga of Kabale Municipality under tight security led by the
Commander of Field Force Unit for Kabale District Henry Kisembo and
the Kabale Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Mr. Darius Nandinda.
Ronald Bagamuhunda of NRM party was elected as the Youth Chairperson
after polling 69 votes, defeating FDC candidate Anthony Muhwezi who
got 35 votes.
Another member of NRM, Aston Muhumuza polled 68 votes and was
declared the Vice Chairperson defeating Heyton Beinomugisha of FDC
party who got 36 votes.
In the race for General Secretary, Dan Muhwezi of NRM party got 69 votes defeating Collins Rukundo of the FDC party who got 35 votes while Jacob Nicholas Ainebyoona was declared Publicity Secretary after polling 68 votes as his competitor of the FDC party Davis Niwamanya managed just 36 votes.
Others include; Fortunate Nabimanya who was elected as Secretary for
Female Youth after getting 69 votes while her competitor of the FDC
party Martha Abenaitwe polled 35 votes, Savious Ariho of the of NRM
party was announced as Secretary for Students Affairs defeating Joshua
Kato Arinda of the FDC party who got 36 votes, Honest Niwagaba of NRM
was declared as Secretary for Labour Affairs after getting 68 votes
while his competitor, Boaz Muhumuza of the FDC party got 36 votes.
Devis Otebwa of NRM party was declared Secretary for Sports and
Culture after polling 68 votes while his opponent of the FDC party,
Difasi Nasasira polled only 36 votes and Herbert Ninsiima of NRM
party who polled 68 votes was elected as Secretary for Finance, after
he defeated FDC’s Alex Richard Kimuri who got 36 votes.
Lillian Aharimpisa, the Presiding Officer said that the election
exercise ended smoothly. However, Anthony Muhwezi of the FDC party who
lost to Bagamuhunda of NRM party for Chairmanship said that the
election was marred with voter bribery and intimidation.
Bagamuhunda told our reporter that Muhwezi’s accusations are baseless
saying that he mobilized most of the youth to rally behind him.
The Kabale District Electoral Commission Registrar Hajji Ahmed Naduli
Musisi said that the deployment was to avert violence during the
exercise.
