According to Betty Amongi the State Minister of Kampala Capital City, Nakawa [Basajabalaba zone] and Kalerwe market have totally failed to comply with Standard Operating Procedures set by the Ministry of Health and directives issued by The President towards snailing the spread of coronavirus in the country.
It was observed that there is no social distancing practices in these markets and that people are always so close to the extent of causing stampedes in the markets as they purchase food items.
The Minister directed all the food vendors to stay at home for 2 days as the people in charge of these markets and KCCA improvise proper ways of implementing SOPs once opened such as social distancing.
“The Markets will again open next week on Monday if the people in charge of these markets provide strategies for proper organization of food stalls, other wise the markets will be closed completely”, the Minister assured citizens while at press conference today afternoon.
