The High Court has set Monday 25th January as the day they shall rule on whether National Unity Platform (NUP) President Robert Kyagulanyi and his wife Barbra Itungo are in illegal detention at their home in Magere, Wakiso District.
Justice Elubu Michael set the date after hearing out Kyagulanyi’s Lawyers led by Medard Lubega Ssegona and what Government had to say in reply.
The Police Director of Operations Edward Ochom and the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) Chief Legal Officer Gordon Busingye through Govt Lawyer Martin Mwambusya told Court that they are not in custody of Kyagulanyi Ssentamu nor his wife; but that the officers at Magere are only giving him security and limiting his movements following the misconduct he exhibited during election campaigns.
Ochom and Busingye also claim that Kyagulanyi jumped bail in a case whose details have not been availed to court, which claim Ssegona denies adding that the respondents had not also drawn any connection of the arrested youth rioters to Bobi Wine whose behaviour allegedly links him to misconduct.
On Monday, Kyagulanyi’s Lawyers petitioned Court demanding for his release from house arrest since the just concluded Presidential Elections he lost with 34.83 percent to the incumbent President Museveni’s 58.64 percent; and he expressed dissatisfaction
