Kawempe North LCV Councillor Muhammad Ssegirinya is the official flag bearer for Bobi Wine’s National Unity Platform (NUP) in the Member of Parliament (MP) race for Kawempe North.
According to a list released by the Party Secretariat, Mr. Ssegirinya was granted the ticket after beating NUP National Organising Secretary Suleiman Kidandala in the vetting process.
Initially, while releasing the list of flag bearers for Central Region, the position of MP for Kawempe North was left undecided and recommended for re-evaluation.
Ssegirinya is a controversial figure in Kampala politics but commands a huge fan base in Kawempe North. He contested for Speaker of Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) Council last year and got just 2 votes.
In Kawempe South, that was also up for re-evaluation, former NBS scribe and President of the Uganda Journalists’ Association (UJA) Bashir Kazibwe was selected over former Makerere University Guild President Roy Ssemboga.
