Kakwenza Rukirabashaija, an author of a book, “The Greedy Barbarian”, that was arrested and detained by Ugandan security forces has been released on bail.
Mr Rukirabashaija, whose book was popularly interpreted to be a stinging critical masterpiece of President Museveni was released by the Chief Magistrate Court of Iganga on non-cash bail of Shs 10M.
According to our sources, the author was being detained for engaging in acts likely to spread an infectious disease. He was arrested on Easter Monday and has been in detention since.
“He is being charged for allegedly uttering false information and spreading harmful propaganda in relation to the deadly COVID-19. He was ordered to return to Iganga Chief Magistrate Court on May 16, 2020.” A source in Iganga disclosed to us.
