Family, friends and fans of fallen basketball star Kobe Bryant are gathered at the Staples Centre to pay celebrate the life of the former Lakers star and that of his daughter Gianna (Gigi) Bryant.
Perhaps the highlight of the night, is the uncontrollable tear shedding by Micheal Jordan while giving his speech at the event. Jordan, arguably the greatest basketballer ever mentored Kobe and saw him rise through the ranks to his own legend status.
“He was like a little brother. Everyone wanted to talk about the comparisons between him and I. I just wanted to talk about Kobe,” Jordan said at the event.
He said that Kobe was the most passionate baller he head ever met. That he was determined to be the best at the game and nothing would stop him.
“This kid had passion like you would never know. He wanted to be the best basketball player he could be. And as I got to know him, I wanted to be the best big brother I could be.” Jordan added.
Realizing that his tears were visible to the world now, Jordan joked that he was now going to see another crying meme of himself on the internet.
“Now it got me. Now I have to see another crying meme for the next 4 to 5 years but that is what Kobe Bryant does to me.” He mourned.
Kobe died in a helicopter crash on January 26th 2020 along with his daughter Gianna. The date 2/24 honors their jerseys (“2” for Gianna, “24” for Kobe).
