Police in Kassanda are investigating a fatal accident that occurred on June 19, 2024 at around 1330hrs in Namilyango village, along Mityana-Bukuya Road. The accident involved an Isuzu forward truck, Reg no. UBA 605A, silver in color, which was traveling from Mityana Town to Bukuya with market vendors on board. The driver, who has not been identified, lost control of the vehicle on a slope, causing it to overturn, resulting in the death of 11 people on the spot. Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) has equipped 34 business startups with knowledge on their rights and obligations, business formalization, tax incentives and non-tax incentives offered by Government. The National Resistance Movement (NRM)’s Central Executive Committee (CEC) has dropped all Parliamentary Committee chairpersons and deputies who are NRM leaning to be dropped. The Bank of Uganda, has liquidated and revoked the license of Mercantile Bank Limited. Ordering it wind up operations. “In exercise of its powers under Sections 99 and 17 (b) & (f) of the Financial Institutions Act, 2004, as amended, the Bank of Uganda (BoU) has, effective today, June 18, 2024, placed Mercantile Credit Bank Limited under liquidation, revoked its license, and made an order for the winding up of its affairs,” a statement from the bank has read. The Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) has cracked down on tax evaders flouting tax laws. Acting on intelligence, the team conducted a week-long operation in areas of Namayiba bus park, Gayaza, Kayunga and Nakasongola lake shores, targeting evaders and smugglers.
