The General Court Martial in Makindye has charged and remanded opposition politician Col. (Rtd) Kiiza Besigye and Obed Lutale to Luzira Government Prison. Brig. Gen. Freeman Mugabe, Chairman of the Court Martial, ordered their remand until December 2.
Besigye and Lutale face charges of possessing two pistols and eight rounds of ammunition without a license.
Prosecutors claim the offenses occurred in Nairobi, Kenya, Athens, Greece, and Geneva, Switzerland.
The duo appeared in court at 1 pm, three hours after the scheduled time. It’s reported that Besigye was picked up from Nairobi, where he and Lutale had gone to attend a book launch by Kenyan politician Martha Karua.
Besigye and Lutale will reappear for mention and ruling on their case.
