Seven Formally Charged Before the Anti-Corruption Court over the Ndeeba Church Demolition

17 out of 20 people including Police Officers who were in August this year arrested in connection with the demolition  of St. Peters Church in Ndeeba – Kampala and have been formally charged before the Anti-Corruption Court  with Abuse of  Office,  Corruption, theft and defying Presidential and Ministry of Health Guidelines on the Spread of COVID-19 Pandemic.

This follows DPP Jane Frances Abodo’s directive to Makindye Magistrate court last week to have the accused persons case file  transferred to the trial Court in Kololo.

They include SSP Agero Richard, SP Odero Martin, ASP Isabirye Karoli, AIP Kiro Anthony, two KCCA Staff Ivan Katongole (Manager Physical Planning) and Naika Richard. Dodoviko Mwanje the man said to be the mastermind of the demolition together with nine others.

They appeared before Chief Magistrate Pamella Lamunu Ochaya and denied all the 8 counts.

Prosecution led by Noah Kunya alleges that between March and August 2020 the  17 and others still at large conspired to flout regulation 28(1) of the building regulations 2020 and caused demolition of St. Peters Church Ndeeba in Kampala.

The Officers who are attached to Field Force Unit Katwe- Kampala Metropolitan Area; are further accused of having neglected their duty of securing the said Church from demolition;  while Dodoviko Mwanje and others still at large stole Church assorted items valued at Shs 850M the property of St. Peters Church of Uganda Ndeeba in Kampala.

Meanwhile Criminal Summons have been issued to CPL Kasule Richard together with a one Matovu Simon and Maruti Bashir who are out on bail but didn’t report to the trial Court as ordered.

The bail earlier granted to them by Makindye Magistrates Court has been reinstated and the accused persons told to return to court on 5th/Feb/2020 as investigations into their case continue.
