The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Water and Environment, Alfred Okot
Okidi has asked Ugandans to protect water sources for environmental
conservation and future generation.

Okidi who was represented by the Principal Forestry Officer in Ministry of
Water and Environment, Charles Byaruhanga made the call yesterday while
speaking as the guest of honor during the close-out meeting  of the “Striking Balance: Developing a Green Economy around Lake Bunyonyi” project held at White Horse Inn in Kabale Municipality.

The Shs 2.5Bn European Union project that started in December 2017 was launched in July 2018, by Water and Environment Minister, Sam Cheptoris and it was implemented by the African International Christian Ministry-AICM in partnership with Self Help Africa in areas neighboring the Lake Bunyonyi.

Okidi said that encroaching on water sources such as lakes and rivers will
result into water shortages, water quality deterioration, floods and drought. He said that water sources need to be managed in an integrated, inclusive and sustainable manner for the benefit of the present and future generations.

The Executive Director of African International Christian Ministry, Faith
Tushabe, commended the beneficiaries for allowing the project to take place in their communities.  She however urged the beneficiaries to continue practicing better farming practices in order to conserve and protect Lake Bunyonyi.
