Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) presidential candidate Patrick Amuriat Oboi has today morning been arrested by Police at the border of Rubirizi and Bushenyi districts.

Amuriat was arrested at Kombe near Kyamuhunga as he was on his way to Rubirizi District to hold his campaign rally.

The presidential candidate was today scheduled to hold his campaigns in Rubirizi, Buhweju and Bushenyi districts before travelling to Busoga sub-region for his campaigns over the weekend.

Amuriat was arrested following a video clip that showed him in a scuffle with Mbarara District Police Commander (DPC) John Rutagira on Wednesday this week.

In the video, Amuriat, whose mortocade was met with a road block as he was on his way to Mbarara City, jumps on a boda boda that goes ahead to knock the Police Commander to the ground and then takes off to Kakyeka Stadium in Mbarara.

According to Police spokesperson for greater Bushenyi, Martial Tumusiime, the presidential candidate was arrested on grounds of assaulting a police officer and violating a lawful police roadblock.

“Amuriat has been arrested and taken back to Mbarara to answer charges of why he knocked the DPC and also why he didn’t follow the procedures while campaigning in Mbarara,” said Tumusiime.

Amuriat was taken to Mbarara to record a statement about the incident.
