Annual Kabaka Birthday Run  Happening This Sunday Virtually

The Kabaka Birthday Run is an annual run organized by the Buganda Kingdom to celebrate the Birthday (13th April) of His Majesty Ronald Muwenda Mutebi the Kabaka (King) of Buganda Kingdom.

This year’s run shall take place virtually due to the unprecedented times of COVID-19 which poses a major risk to the runners.

The run which was intended to happen the weekend before the Kings Birthday on 5th April but was postponed due to the total lockdown to 29th November 2020.

The proceeds from the run will go towards fighting HIV/AIDS in Uganda under the theme, “Abasajja Tulwanyise Mukenenya tutaase abaana ab’obuwala” translated as “Men against AIDS to Save the Girl Child”

Some runners will be flagged off in the Palace in Mengo with a specially designed route. The rest of the people will run at their respective localities, post the pictures on their different social media platforms.

The participants can snap and post their run using the hashtag #KabakaWange.

Kabaka urged his subjects and all the people to take care and safe guard against the HIV/AIDS pandemic with the men at the fore front.

To participate, one can pay a registration fee of Shs. 10,000 through Airtel Money. Tickets can also be bought from Airtel sShops around Kampala. The Airtel Shop at Thobani Center, Kampala Road, the Airtel Shop at the New Taxi Park, the Airtel Shop Shoprite Building Ben Kiwanuka Street and at Bulange Mengo.

The kits will come with a running vest, water bottle and wrist band.

The event is sponsored by Airtel Uganda, Majestic brands, DFCU bank, UNAIDS, CBS FM, BBS TV, Olwendo water.
