Hearing of the murder case against businessman Mathew Kanyamunyu and  his girlfriend Cynthia Munwangari that was expected to resume today at the High Court Criminal Division in Kampala has been rescheduled for  27th October, 2020.

According to the Judiciary’s Chief Communications Officer Solomon Muyita, the Judge in this case Stephen Mubiru yesterday held a pre-trial session with the Prosecution and accused persons’ Lawyers and they agreed that they will be prepared for resumption of the trial next week Tuesday.

The Kanyamunyuz are alleged to have murdered Social Worker Kenneth Akena on 12th November, 2016 by shooting; after Akena, the deceased, reportedly knocked Kanyamunyu’s car at Lugogo in Kampala.

It shall also be remembered that the public is not allowed to attend this trial due to the COVID-19 Pandemic Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) that will only require the presence of the accused persons, lawyers, witnesses and Court  Assessors.

The Judiciary also clarifies that it is treating Kanyamunyu’s case as part heard because it has not received any formal communication over media reports that Mathew Kanyamunyu  approached the deceased’ family for an amicable settlement.

Kanyamunyu and 39 other case files for Capital Offenders have been prepared for this Criminal Session by the Court Registrar Mary Kaitesi who is to also issue Criminal Summons requiring both Mathew Kanyamunyu and Cynthia Munwangari who are out on bail; to be present that day.
